First holographic guides
As the first work within the REEB project, we have proposed the use of Dynamics 365 Guides, a tool that allows to create tutorials on procedures in a very visual, practical and simple way.
In this article we will explain the process we have followed to carry out this work in the CIFP Los Gladiolos with the idea of sharing an experience that we believe is especially useful for schools both to learn to manage the devices that exist in these spaces and to raise teaching and learning activities for students.
Objective of the work
In this first phase of the work, which will have a second part with the results achieved with the students, the objective is for the teachers to learn how to use the application and, on the other hand, to organize the research work to be carried out in the classroom.
Necessary resources
To carry out this activity it is necessary to have the following resources:
HoloLens 2: with this equipment it will be possible to implement in the workspace the holograms with the steps that the person learning the procedure or technique will have to follow.
Dynamics 365 Guides application: this application is paid and is necessary to create these tutorials.
Windows 10: it is necessary to work in this operating system environment.
Description
With Dynamics 365 Guides what we are going to elaborate are cards with the necessary steps we need to learn how to perform a technique or how to handle a device, among other uses. For our center, it is a tool with which we intend to create tutorials for handling apparatus of the laboratories of the Laboratory, Pathological Anatomy and Diagnostic Imaging cycles and for guides to learn how to perform techniques within a laboratory, such as the serological test of COVID-19.
In this first phase, the Oral and Dental Hygiene faculty is going to elaborate a tutorial on an apparatus that is very commonly used in dental centers and we are going to carry out the test with a group of first year students of Nurse Care.
Procedure
The procedure for the elaboration of the tutorial is as follows:
1. Outline
After selecting the device or technique that we want to include in the tutorial, the first step that we will have to carry out is to make an outline (on paper, Power Point…) of how the tutorial will be to have it as a reference. It will be our guide to make the tutorial with the Dynamics 365 Guides application. In our case, we have chosen a very simple photopolymerization lamp so that the procedure of elaboration of the tutorials is not very complex.
2. Guides
With the Guides application, we will make the holographic cards (HBD_Cards) that will serve as a guide for the students. These cards are accompanied by images or videos to facilitate the understanding of the procedure being taught.
Before starting the creation of these cards, we have to decide which QR code method we want (image 1). The QR is necessary so that the HoloLens has a spatial reference and can adjust the 3D holographic elements that we are in the tutorial to reality (in this first test we will not use any but it is necessary to place that QR at some point so that we can scan it with the HoloLens and the tutorial is activated).

3. HoloLens
Once the presentation is made in Guides, its adjustment will be performed with the HoloLens to see that everything is correct. When opening the Guides application with HoloLens, the teacher has to open the “Author” option.
4. Student use
The student will access Guides as an “operator”, that is, as a person who is going to learn this procedure. Once this option is selected, he will scan, with his HoloLens, the QR and start the training action (image 2).

In the next blog post we will explain the results with students who have tried this tool.
